The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) was formed in 2003 from the merger of two universities and is now one of the largest and youngest German universities, hosting approximately 42,000 students. The university distinguishes itself through its strong research, pedagogical excellence and rich diversity. Its outstanding and cutting-edge research makes it internationally competitive, exemplified by its unique focus on water research in Germany.

UDE offers a comprehensive academic portfolio featuring 267 innovative bachelor’s and master’s programmes, ranging from aquatic biology to business informatics. Numerous members of the university engage in close collaboration with partners from society, business and politics to develop scientific innovations to address social challenges.
